Stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the State of Georgia, Jefferson County
is called Florida's Keystone County. Jefferson County is located between two
large and exciting communities; Tallahassee, Florida and Thomasville, Georgia.
Accessible by the Florida-Georgia Parkway, Interstate 10 and other major roads,
Jefferson County is a small, quiet and relaxing community.
Our pre-history is also preserved in our archeological sites. Our ecological
offerings are majestic. Pristine rivers and streams, hunting and fishing
preserves, vast woodlands and plantations offer a spectacular and unique
identity to Jefferson County. Canoeing, kayaking, bird-watching and horseback
riding are popular pastimes.
Jefferson County is one of the only counties remaining in Florida with NO
stoplights. At the same time, exciting activities play an important community
role. Kart racing and an excellent greyhound dog-racing track are located in
Jefferson County. The historic Monticello Opera House hosts a yearlong parade
of plays and musical events in the 1890 theater.
Jefferson County is served by charming bed and breakfast inns, country cabins
and more modern hotels and motels. Camping sites and RV parks are also available.
Numerous restaurants with the "hometown atmosphere" are ready to serve.
Jefferson County welcomes you in a special "southern" way. Come visit us.
Relax, prop your feet up and sit a spell.
